MdO gets a winner in the snow

Well-bred daughter Regia Marina is latest Black Type winner for her sire

Freezing temperatures and a little snow on the ground didn’t seem to bother Medaglia d’Oro’s daughter Regia Marina as she registered her first career Black Type win at Mahoning Valley Race Course in Northern Ohio on November 21st.

First-time jockey Albin Jiminez found himself at the back of the pack aboard the Godolphin color bearer but he quickly settled her into a nice rhythm and the duo progressed evenly as the race unfolded. Although she had to come seven wide at the top of the stretch, Regia Marina was able to assume command in mid-stretch and then pull away for a solid win in the six-furlong test.

Bred by Darley in Kentucky, Regia Marina is out of multiple G2 winner Fleet Lady who is the dam of Eclipse Champion and Darley stallion Midshipman and also the dam of Fast Cookie, she the dam of new Darley stallion Frosted, record-setting winner of this year’s G1 Metropolitan Handicap and G1 Whitney Stakes.

Medaglia d’Oro is having another fantastic year in 2016 with his Champion daughter Songbird leading the way. Songbird has now won seven G1 events with her only blemish in 11 career starts coming in a thrilling second-place finish in this year’s G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff against Horse of the Year Beholder. Medaglia d'Oro is also sire of 2016 G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filllies Turf winner New Money Honey and 2016 dirt/turf G1 winner Mshawish.

Medaglia d’Oro will stand the 2017 Breeding season at a fee of $150,000 stands and nurses.
