Hip 589 brings $1.5 million on day four

There was a great deal of buzz over hip number 589 even before she entered the ring on day four of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, and the dark bay or brown filly surpassed all expectations, bringing $1.5 million, the highest-priced filly thus far at the sale and the second highest price overall (hip 508, by Dubawi, brought $1.45 million on the third night of the sale).

Consigned by the Royal Oak Farm of Braxton and Damian Lynch, the filly is a half-sister to G1 American Oaks winner Nereid and Listed winner/G1-placed Sea Queen. Fiona Craig signed the ticket on behalf of Moyglare Stud.

Nine other yearlings by Medaglia d'Oro brought seven figures on day four of the sale, including two signed for by Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock advisor, John Ferguson. Hip 675, out of G3W Glowing, reached a final bid of $450,000 and was sold by Greenwood Lodge Farm. Hip 325, a colt out of G1 winner Diamondrealla, reached $325,000 on the tote board with Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, the seller. And Deuce Greathouse, acting as agent for Robert Masterson, purchased hip number 607, a bay filly by Medaglia d’Oro, out of a full sister to G2 winner/G1-placed Boca Grande. Lane’s End Farm was the consignor.

Three Street Sense yearlings also sold very well, garnering final prices of $270,000, $250,000 and $225,000, respectively. The first, a half-brother to G2 winner/G1-placed Montgomery's Arch found a home with D.P. Racing, Inc., having been sold by the Dromoland Farm of Gerry Dilger. The second, consigned by Gainesway Farm, agent, and cataloged as hip 608, is a half-sister to G2 winner and G1-placed Zaidan (by Street Cry). Rigney Racing was the successful bidder. Third third was purchased by Three Amigos Stables and hailed from the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment. Out of the Stakes-placed Empire Maker mare Fighter Wing, the filly’s second dam is the multiple G3 winner Ladenheath.

Hard Spun, who returns to Darley in America for 2015, also made an impression with buyers, especially when it came to hip number 618. This yearling, also consigned by Taylor Made, is out of the multiple Stakes winner/multiple G2-placed Ender’s Sister. The sales ticket was signed by J.J. Crupi, agent.

After a dark day on Friday, September 12th, the sale resumes on Saturday, the 13th.
