Malpais cruises to victory in the Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes

Son of Hard Spun never threatened in gate-to-wire romp

Malpais took the lead right out of the starting gate and never looked back as he rolled to a four-length victory in the Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

The win in the seven-furlong contest marked the first in a Stakes for the three-year-old son of Hard Spun, who now has won three of six career starts.

Bred in Kentucky by his owners, Connie and Richard Snyder, Malpais is out of D’Elegance, a Stakes-placed daughter of El Corredor. D’Elegance is a half-sister to Dancing With Ruth (G3 Tempted Stakes) and Brown Eyed Beauty (Listed Spring Fever Stakes).

Hard Spun has sired 70 career Stakes winners, including 10 Grade 1 winners. Hard Spun is having a tremendous spring, led by his three-year-old daughter, Out For A Spin, recent winner of the G1 Central Bank Ashland Stakes. The stallion is also the sire of A Thread Of Blue, winner of the G3 Palm Beach Stakes earlier this year.

Hard Spun is standing the 2019 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $40,000, stands and nurses.
