Majeyda wins Star Stakes at Sandown

Street Cry filly becomes 65th Stakes winner for sire

In only her third start, Godolphin’s Majeyda proves she is a rising star with her impressive win in the Star Stakes at Sandown. The daughter of Street Cry tracked the leader until two-furlongs out when she challenged the leader and led under pressure for the final 150 yards, pushing ahead right at the closing stages for the win.

Bred by Darley, Majeyda is out of the classy mare Alzerra, who won the Group 3 Cornwallis S and placed in the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes in England. She is Alzerra’s third foal, though the first to make it to the winner’s circle.  Alzerra is out of Group 1 placed Belle Argentine, and is a half-sister to Group 3 placed Matloob.

With her victory, Majeyda becomes the 65th Stakes winner for her sire Street Cry, who has sired a phenomenal 40 Group or Graded winners including 13 G1 winners around the globe.  Two of his sire sons, Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense and record-breaking sprinter Street Boss, stand for Darley in Japan and America, respectively.

Street Cry stood the 2013 season for $100,000 stands and nurses at Darley America.
