Lonhro's son Pierro wins G1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes

Outstanding two-year-old colt takes winning streak to five

Lonhro’s son Pierro established himself as the best juvenile in Australia or New Zealand with a dominant win in the G1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m at Randwick on Saturday, extending his unbeaten record to five in the process.

Allowed to race in fourth place, at least five lengths off the tearaway leaders passing the 600m, Pierro turned for home with the hitherto unbeaten All Too Hard on his tail. Once Nash Rawiller asked for the supreme effort, Pierro answered in fine style, quickening away to go clear and defeat All Too Hard with Commands’s son Limes close up in third.

In winning, Pierro lowered Luskin Star’s race record by .03 of a second, prompting his trainer Gai Waterhouse to say. “He is outstanding, I’ve told you that from day one. He is just an outstanding colt.”

Having recorded back-to-back Golden Slipper victories for the Darley sires, after the victory of Elusive Quality colt Sepoy last year, Pierro made it back-to-back wins in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes following the win of Exceed And Excel colt Helmet last year.

Bred by Darley, Pierro is out of the Daylami mare Miss Right Note, a half-sister to Octagonal’s French G1-winning son Laverock. Miss Right Note foaled a sister to Pierro in 2011 before being covered by Street Cry during the last breeding season.

Lonhro stands for $30,000 at Darley USA.
