Kwist is lucky number seven for Nyquist

Colt goes gate-to-wire on debut at Laurel

Current leading freshman sire Nyquist notched his seventh first-crop winner on September 10th as his two-year-old son Kwist went gate-to-wire on debut at Laurel Park.

Kwist broke well and quickly made his way to the front in the six-furlong dirt contest, with Alpha Queue a half-length back in second.  Kwist put away that foe at the top of the stretch before holding off a late charge from Golden Gulley to hit the wire a neck in front.

Bred in Kentucky by Charles E Fipke, Kwist is a half-brother to G1 Acorn and G1 Humana Distaff winner Midnight Lucky and Stakes-placed Songofthecity.  He is out of the Citidancer mare Citiview, a full-sister to G1 La Brea winner Hookedonthefeelin.

Kwist becomes the seventh winner for Nyquist, whose previous winners include G1 Spinaway winner Vequist, Saratoga debut winner and G1 Spinaway third Lady Lilly, Saratoga winner Team Merchants, Soaring Free Stakes winner Gretzky The Great, and Ellis Park winners Assertive Style and Dream Quist.
