Heavily favored Knightsbridge broke on top and was never seriously threatened when going wire-to-wire to win the G3 Mr. Prospector Stakes by four-and-three-quarter lengths at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, Dec. 27.
Making just his second appearance in Graded Stakes company, the four-year-old Nyquist colt had things all his own way up front, riding the rail under jockey Junior Alvarado throughout the seven-furlong contest.
Both Wound Up and Super Chow attempted to challenge Knightsbridge on the far turn, but Alvarado shook his reins and Knightsbridge hit another gear, drawing off through the stretch to win quite easily.
Bred in Kentucky by Godolphin, Knightsbridge is out of the unraced Bernardini mare, Tyburn Brook, making him a half brother to multiple Graded Stakes winner and current Darley stallion, Speaker’s Corner (by Street Sense). Like his younger half-brother, Speaker’s Corner also captured his first Graded Stakes win at Gulfstream, winning both the G3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes and G2 Gulfstream Park Mile prior to his win in the G1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct. Tyburn Brook is out of G1 winner Round Pond, making her a half sister to G1 winner and new Darley stallion, Highland Falls.
In addition to Knightsbridge, Nyquist was also represented by another first-time Stakes winner on Dec. 27 when Montador captured the Woodchopper Stakes at Fair Grounds. Champion Nyquist is the sire of ten career G1 winners, four of which were in 2025: Nysos (G1 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile), Cavalieri (G1 Beholder Mile), Velocity (G1 Del Mar Oaks) and Argos (G1 Summer Stakes).
Nyquist will stand the 2026 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $175,000, stands and nurses.
