Kallos beats a high-class field in the G2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington

Medaglia d'Oro's son becomes stallion's 156th Stakes winner

Godolphin's Kallos (Medaglia d'Oro) produced an easy two-length victory against a high-class field in the G2 Danehill Stakes over 1100m at Flemington on Saturday, October 2.

Jumping from barrier five in the 10-horse field under the guidance of Fred Kersley, the partnership jumped well to confidently take a mid-position at the front of the pack down the Flemington straight. Building momentum throughout the trip, at the 250-metre mark Kersley asked the colt for more and Kallos responded to break away by two lengths running through the line.

Kallos is the first foal out of Calliope, a speedy daughter of Exceed And Excel who captured the Listed Gimcrack and G2 Magic Night Stakes as a juvenile. Calliope is a full-sister to Zethus, winner of the G3 Canonbury Stakes.

Providing his sire with his 156th Stakes winner, Medaglia d'Oro's global influence continues to be felt. In addition to Kallos, Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of fellow Australian Stakes winner Yonkers, who took the G2 Shannon Stakes last weekend at Rosehill.

Medaglia d'Oro stands at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.
