Innovative Idea rallies to win G3 Groupie Doll Stakes

Daughter of Bernardini notches her second straight Stakes victory

Godolphin Racing’s Innovative Idea took the lead in the stretch and then held off the late challenge of Emmajestic to win the G3 Groupie Doll Stakes by a half-length at Ellis Park Aug. 6.

The Groupie Doll was the second straight Stakes win for the daughter of Bernardini, who captured the Listed Iowa Distaff Stakes in her previous start.

Bred in Kentucky by Darley, Innovative Idea is out of the multiple Graded Stakes winner Golden Velvet, who notched victories in the G3 Sixty Sails Handicap and G3 Sabin Handicap and finished second in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes. Golden Velvet is a daughter of the multiple Graded Stakes winner Caress, and is a half-sister to G1 Hopeful Stakes winner, Sky Mesa.

Bernardini is the sire of 50 Stakes winners thus far his career, and has sired nine Graded Stakes winners so far in 2016. In addition to Innovative Idea, Bernardini is the sire of Cavorting, winner of the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes; Lewis Bay, winner of the G2 Gazelle; Penwith, winner of the G2 Royal Delta; Le Bernardin, winner of the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1; Carrumba, winner of the G3 Top Flight Handicap; Shagaf, winner of the G3 Gotham; and Genre, winner of the G3 Molly Pitcher Stakes.
