To Honor And Serve reigns in G1 Woodward Stakes

Second G1 win for son of Bernardini

Bernardini's To Honor And Serve showcased his talent yet again September 1 with a game victory in the G1 Woodward Stakes. The 2012 Saratoga meet has proven very successful for Bernardini, as he is also the sire of August 25 G1 Travers winner Alpha.

In the G1 Woodward To Honor And Serve was right up on the pace during the one and one-eighth mile race. The four-year-old geared up on the outside entering the turn and gamely powered down the stretch for his second G1 win.

The highly regarded To Honor And Serve is now a six-time Graded Stakes winner. At two he had back-to-back wins in the G2 Remsen and G2 Nashua. His three-year-old career was highlighted by wins in the G1 Cigar Mile, G2 Pennsylvania Derby, and G3 Westchester Stakes.

To Honor And Serve was bred by Twin Creeks Farm, Larry Byer, and Rancho San Miguel. He is out of Stakes winner Pilfer, by Deputy Minister, who is a half-sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner India. Pilfer has a two-year-old colt by Street Sense, who has yet to race.

Bernardini continues to impress at stud with five G1 winners from his first two crops alone. They include Alpha, whose G1 Travers-G2 Jim Dandy double was completed last year by the sire's Stay Thirsty. He is the only sire to ever sire two Travers winners in his first two crops. Overall Bernardini is the sire of nine G1 horses to date. In addition to Alpha and To Honor And Serve, his 2012 Graded/Group winners include Via Villaggio, Algorithms, and Le Bernardin.
