Highway Star rallies late to win the New York Stallion Series Staten Island Stakes

Daughter of Girolamo draws off to win by over three lengths

Highway Star earned her first Stakes victory when she rallied from off the pace to win the New York Stallion Series Staten Island Stakes by three-and-a-quarter-lengths at Aqueduct.

Highway Star was settled into fourth early, and raced well off the swift pace set by Rosie P – who, like Highway Star, is a daughter of Girolamo. As the field rounded the far turn, Highway Star began her drive, moving up to second before the field hit the top of the stretch. Through the final furlong, Highway Star continued to close on the new leader, Frosty Margarita, eventually overtaking her and pulling away to win comfortably.

Racing as a homebred for Chester and Mary Broman Sr., Highway Star is out of Stolen Star, a multiple Stakes-placed daughter of Cat Thief. Stolen Star is out of the Stakes-placed mare Unbridled Star, and is a half-sister to the multiple Stakes winners Friend Or Foe and Star Grazing.

Girolamo has sired 28 winners to date, including Stakes winner and G1-placed She’s All Ready, Stakes winners Louisville First and Libreta, and Stakes-placed runners Pagan, Backwood Bay, and Lucky Lurie.
