Hard Spun’s Tripping very steady in Arlington maiden win

No other first-crop sire has more winners

Tripping’s Arlington Park maiden win on August 25 brings to 10 the total number of winners for his freshman sire, Hard Spun, making him the leading freshman sire in that category.

Content to settle into second place, the two-year-old filly seemed to relish the turf in her second start on the surface, taking command when entering the stretch, and leading to the wire while winning by a comfortable margin.

Bred by Grade I Bloodstock and Halcyon Farm in Kentucky, the filly is out of a winning daughter of Majestic Light and is also a half-sister to G3 winner Private Chef.

From his first crop of two-year-olds, Hard Spun has also sired the G2 winner Red Duke, the promising Belmont Maiden Special Weight winner Artest in addition to Frisco Bay in Japan. Hard Spun was one of North American’s top three-year-olds of 2007 when he won the G1 King’s Bishop at seven furlongs with placings in the G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, both at one and one-quarter miles.
