Golden Sixty turns back challenge from More Than This to take G1 FWD Champions Mile

Medaglia d’Oro gelding extends unbeaten streak to 14 in heart-stopping fashion
Golden Sixty holds off More Than This to win G1 Champions Mile

Golden Sixty notched his fourth consecutive Group 1 win with a thrilling head victory in the G1 FWD Champions Mile at Sha Tin April 25.

It was the 14th consecutive win for the Medaglia d’Oro gelding, whose unbeaten streak began in July 2019. Golden Sixty’s other G1 successes have come in the Stewards’ Cup, Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup and Hong Kong Mile.

Settled at the rear of the six-runner field by jockey Vincent Ho, Golden Sixty made his move at the 600m mark, displaying an incredible turn of foot as he swept past his rivals and took command, quickly opening a two-length lead with just a furlong left to run. Golden Sixty then had to summon everything he had left to hold off the late charge of stablemate More Than This to win by a head.

Golden Sixty was bred in Australia and is out of Gaudeamus, an Irish Group 2 winner by Distorted Humor. Golden Sixty is one of the mare’s five winners from her seven foals to race.

Medaglia d’Oro is off to a strong start this year, with five Stakes winners so far. In addition to Golden Sixty, the stallion is represented by Risk Taking (G3 Withers), Beautiful Gift (G3 Santa Ysabel), Moonlight d’Oro (G3 Las Virgenes) and New Trails (Listed Curlin Stakes).

Medaglia d'Oro is standing the 2021 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $150,000, stands and nurses.
