Golden Mile stands up as a serious Golden Rose-Caulfield Guineas spring star

Three-year-old Astern colt claims G3 by a dominant 3.75 lengths

Joining stable mate and paternal brother Aft Cabin (Astern) as serious contenders ahead of the stallion-making G1 Golden Rose and G1 Caulfield Guineas three-year-old features, the James Cummings-trained colt Golden Mile displayed a dominant performance recording a 3.75-length win in the G3 Ming Dynasty over 1,400m at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 10 September.

Jumping clean from barrier two, Sam Clipperton opted to sit fifth-back off the fence biding his time and at the 400-metre mark asked of the colt who duly responded with minimal persuasion to draw clear of all his rivals.

Post-race Cummings confirmed the colt will head towards the stallion-making G1 Golden Rose in two weeks' time, a race his sire produced a reminiscent run of his son posting a 2.75-length win in the G1 feature.

Following the Golden Rose, Golden Mile will head towards the G1 Caulfield Guineas.

Interestingly, Sam Clipperton has a strong link to this family having steered Golden Mile's dam Calaverite (Lonhro) to Stakes success in the 2014 Listed Gimcrack Stakes.

Astern is standing the southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside, New South Wales at a fee of $11,000 including GST.
