Golden Award shines in G3 Shuvee Stakes

Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro draws off to earn her first Graded Stakes victory

Golden Award gave jockey Tyler Gaffalione his third winner on the card when she pulled away nearing the wire to win the G3 Shuvee Stakes by two-and-three-quarter-lengths at Saratoga 21 July 2019.

The four-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who earned her first Graded Stakes win in the Shuvee, came into the race off a nose defeat in the G3 DuPont Distaff on May 17.

Golden Award contested the early pace outside of She’s A Julie, put away that rival turning for home, then began to pull away in the stretch. Favored Wow Cat loomed a threat in the stretch, but quickly flattened out and had to settle for second, as Golden Award cruised to the wire an easy winner.

Bred in Kentucky by Harvey A. Clarke, Golden Award races for Summer Wind Farm. She is out of the winning Arch mare, Arch’s Gal Edith, and is a half-sister to Champion Three-Year-Old colt and Kentucky Derby winner, I’ll Have Another.

Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of 32 Stakes performers in 2019 - eight Group or Graded winners - including Elate, winner of the G2 Delaware Handicap and G2 Fleur de Lis; Majestic Eagle, winner of the G3 American Stakes at Santa Anita and G1 Rosehill Guineas winner, Crown Prosecutor

With the 2019 sales season soon to get underway, it should be noted that Medaglia d'Oro was the sire of eight million-dollar yearlings last year. Watch for his first select yearlings selling at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga in August.
