Gallant Dreams is wide awake in Belmont win

Two-year-old colt gives Bernardini eighth first-crop winner

Content to rate just off the pace in fourth place, jockey David Cohen began to urge on Bernardini’s Gallant Dreams just as they entered the stretch and was met with a solid response that saw the two-year-old colt pass the front runners for a three and one-half length victory on October 22nd at Belmont Park.

Gallant Dreams is out of the G1 Mother Goose Stakes winner Dreams Gallore, she a half-sister to G3 winners Absent Friend and Fateful Dream. He was bred by Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Stud and races in the colors of Weber’s Live Oak Plantation.

Champion Bernardini is the sire of seven other winners from his first crop, including G1 Frizette Stakes winner A Z Warrior, G1 Gran Criterium Stakes winner Biondetti, G3 winner and G1-placed Theyskens’ Theory as well as G1-placed Stay Thirsty. All four are being pointed towards this year’s Breeders’ Cup next month at Churchill Downs.

The last first-crop sire represented by more G1 winners than Bernardini was Danzig.
