G2 Autumn Stakes for Hard Spun’s Son

San Nicasio leads throughout to record victory

Jumping away from the middle of the line, three-year-old Hard Spun gelding San Nicasio crossed the field to go forward, keeping the lead throughout to claim the G2 Autumn Stakes at Caulfield, Australia.

A last start fourth behind Medaglia d'Oro colt Java in the G3 Manfred Stakes at Sandown, the Peter Moody-trained gelding is now the winner of three from five and looks more than capable of adding further Stakes success.

Bred and sold by Woodside Park Stud Pty Ltd, San Nicasio is the third winner, and first at Stakes level for the Snippets mare Munchie, a half-sister to the Stakes placed Happens, both daughters of the G3 Curragh Stakes winner Eichtercua.

The second Stakes winner for Hard Spun in the space of a few days after the G3 UAE 2,000 Guineas victory of Maftool on Thursday, Hard Spun is now the sire of 39 Stakes winners highlighted by six individual G1 winners.

Hard Spun stands for a 2015 fee of $35,000 stands and nurses.
