G1 winner Marketing Mix beats the boys in G3 Sunset Handicap

Medaglia d'Oro mare wins her seventh Graded Stakes

Multiple G1-winning turf superstar Marketing Mix impressed once again July 14 by beating the boys in the G3 Sunset Handicap at Hollywood Park. The mare was coming off a strong victory in the G1 Gamely Stakes over the same Hollywood turf course in late May.

In the one-and-one-half-mile turf race, Marketing Mix broke well and stalked the pace in fourth position. At the three-eighths pole, the five-year-old mare took the lead and held off the defending champion in the stretch.

Marketing Mix now boasts an impressive seven Graded Stakes victories for owner Glen Hill Farm. At three she posted wins in both the G2 Mrs. Revere Stakes and G3 Pucker Up Stakes. As a four-year-old she continued her winning ways in the G1 Rodeo Drive Stakes, G2 Dance Smartly Stakes, and G2 Nassau Stakes.

Marketing Mix is out of Instant Thought, by Kris S., and her second dam is Graded Stakes-placed Nimble Mind, a full-sister to G1 winner Contredance and Graded Stakes winners Skimble and Shotiche. She was bred by Sean Fitzhenry.

Marketing Mix is the third Graded Stakes winner on the weekend for her sire Medaglia d'Oro. On July 13 Dark Cove posted his third Graded Stakes victory in a row in the G3 Stars snd Stripes Stakes on the Arlington turf. His win was followed with Treasured Up's impressive win in the G3 Robert G. Dick Memorial Handicap at Delaware Park. Medaglia d'Oro is best known for his fantastic daughter and Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra as well as multiple G1-winning filly Plum Pretty.
