Flying Connection soars to victory in Sunland Park's Harry Henson Handicap

Four-year-old Nyquist filly now a six-time Stakes winner

Flying Connection picked up right where she left off at the end of 2023—with yet another Stakes victory, leading from the start to win the $100,000 Harry Henson Handicap by a sharp four-and-a-quarter lengths at Sunland Park on Sunday, 18 February.

The four-year-old daughter of Nyquist ended her sophomore season having won two straight Stakes races and showed no signs of resting on her laurels in her 2024 debut, breaking on top and never looking back as she wired the field for an easy victory.

A $250,000 Keeneland September yearling, Flying Connection was bred in Kentucky by Liberty Road Stables. She is out of the multiple Stakes winner and G1 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint-third Free Flying Soul, by the late Darley stallion Quiet American. Second dam Ruby Surprise won the G2 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs along with the G3 Turfway Breeders' Cup Stakes at Turfway Park.

Nyquist has carried over his stellar 2023 into the new year, having already sired the undefeated three-year-old colt, Nysos, winner of both the G3 Robert B. Lewis and G3 Bob Hope Stakes. In 2023 he was represented by such stars as the filly Randomized, winner of the G1 Alabama and Slow Down Andy, winner of the G1 Awesome Again Stakes. Nyquist was also represented by G2 Mother Goose winner Xigera and G2 Amsterdam winner, New York Thunder.

Nyquist is standing the 2024 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $85,000, stands and nurses.
