Fioretti battles to victory in the Open Mind Stakes

Daughter of Bernardini relishes the off going to earn her first win of the season

Fioretti rallied from just off the pace to win the Open Mind Stakes by a half-length at Churchill Downs September 17.

Racing in third through the early stages of the race, the daughter of Bernardini moved up to challenge for the lead on the far turn while racing four-wide. Fioretti took the lead a furlong from the wire and was able to hold off the late charge of Ramona’s Wildcat to secure the victory.

Fioretti was bred in Kentucky by James G. Bell and is out of Move Clickly, a winning daughter of champion Cherokee Run. Move Clickly has also produced Louisville First (by Girolamo), winner of the New York Stallion Stakes. Fioretti hails from the immediate family of Manahan McLir, winner of the G2 American Derby.

Bernardini is the sire of nine Graded Stakes winners in North America in 2016, including dual G1 winner Cavorting; Lewis Bay, winner of the G2 Gazelle Stakes; Penwith, winner of the G2 Royal Delta Stakes; Le Bernardin, winner of the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1; Carrumba, winner of the G3 Top Flight Handicap; Innovative Idea, winner of the G3 Groupie Doll Stakes; Genre, winner of the G3 Molly Pitcher Stakes; and Shagaf, winner of the G3 Gotham Stakes.
