Elusive Quality tops day two at Doncaster

Sole lot by Darley America sire fetches $266,500 as British yearling sales season begins

The British yearling sales season is under way and, for the second day running, a Darley-sired yearling occupied the top spot at Doncaster’s St Leger Yearling Sale when the sole Elusive Quality offering in the catalogue sold for £145,000 ($266,500).

The colt, consigned by Grove Stud in Ireland, is out of the G3 Molecomb Stakes winner Sahara Star (Green Desert) and is a half-brother to the G2 Flying Childers winner Land Of Dreams. He is destined to be trained by John Gosden, who has done so well with another Elusive Quality colt, Raven’s Pass, winner of last weekend’s G2 Celebration Mile.

In Tuesday’s opening session, a colt from the first crop of Darley’s European-based stallion Dubawi took top honours when selling for £220,000 ($404,000). Dubawi is, of course, a son of Sheikh Mohammed’s great Dubai World Cup winner, the late Dubai Millennium.

The sales concludes Thursday.
