Darley stallions in demand

Mares in foal to the Darley stallions lead the way on day one of the Inglis Broodmare Sale

With 200 lots catalogued in the Super Select Session of the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale in Australia, mares in foal to the Darley stallions provided three of the top four lots.

Heading the list was Lot 127, the G3-winning Danehill mare One World. Consigned in the draft of Coolmore Stud as agent, One World was offered in foal to Champion sire Lonhro. Already the dam of the Group Three Blue Diamond Prelude (F) winner One Last Dance, the mare was purchased by the American-based Solis Bloodstock for AUS$720,000.

The second highest priced mare of the sale so far was consigned by Tyreel Stud as Lot 53. Stakes placed in the Listed Gowran McCalmont Memorial Stakes at three, the grey Machiavellian mare Diamond Necklace is a half-sister to Darley stallion Shamardal, both being from the Listed Evry Prix Melisande performer Helsinki, a full-sister to fellow Darley stallion Street Cry. Sold in foal to Commands, the sire of recent G1 Queen Of The Turf and Coolmore Classic winner Appearance, Diamond Necklace was also knocked down to Solis Bloodstock, this time for AUS$540,000.

With the first opportunity to purchase a mare in foal to the four-time G1 winner Sepoy (pictured), competition was hot for the Newgate Farm (as agent)-consigned Lot 173 Snowgums. A Redoute’s Choice half-sister to five Stakes horses including G1 winner Snowland and the G2-winning, multiple G1 placed Portillo, Snowgums was secured by Emirates Park Stud for AUS$440,000 – the top priced paid for a mare in foal to a first-season sire at the sale.

The sale continues tomorrow.
