Dark Cove lights up in G2 Elkhorn Stakes

Dark Cove easily took the feature on Keeneland's closing day with a score in the G2 Elkhorn Stakes. The son of top sire Medaglia d'Oro settled right off the pace in third throughout most of the one-and-one-half mile turf race. Taking charge on the final turn, he took over the lead and drew away for a seven length win. Side Road, a son of Street Cry, was second.

Bred by Stonewall Farm Stallions, Dark Cove is out of the Kris S. mare Crystal Cove. A daughter of Stakes winner and Graded-placed Scenic Point, the mare is a half-sister to G3 winner Better Now.

A strong sire on all surfaces, talented runners by Medaglia d'Oro include Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra and G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty. In 2012 he added two new G1 winners to this significant list with G1 CashCall Futurity winner Violence and talented turf mare Marketing Mix in the G1 Rodeo Drive Stakes.
