Crown Prosecutor gets the verdict in New Zealand

Medaglia d'Oro colt shows great potential in G3 Otaki win

Crown Prosecutor has stamped himself as a colt for the future with an all-the-way win in the G3 Wellington Stakes at Otaki on Friday, 30 November.

Taken straight to the front by Jason Waddell, Crown Prosecutor raced generously throughout and had his rivals off the bit when he went for home at the 600m.

The son of Medaglia d’Oro maintained the gallop to the line, scoring by a long neck from Swords Drawn with a head to Sentimental Miss in third place.

The breakthrough win came at the colt’s fourth start and followed placings in maidens at his previous two.

As well as his obvious ability, Crown Prosecutor has a pedigree that belies the A$50,000 price tag he achieved at the 2017 Inglis Melbourne Pemier yearling sale.

His dam Riptide, a daughter of Exceed And Excel, was a winner in city class in Melbourne, as was her grand dam River Express, a noted broodmare who has produced nine winners among her 11 foals to race.

Among those are Cross Current, a Listed winner and Group placegetter in Melbourne.

The family also includes the G1 winning sprinter River Dove, and the Stakes winners Headwater, Kulgrinda and Willow Creek.

Crown Prosecutor is Medaglia d'Oro’s 118th Stakes winner
