Crimson Advocate gets up in time to win Listed Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes

Four-year-old daughter of Nyquist earns the victory in a tight photo finish

Crimson Advocate put in a furious rally down the center of the course, then had to await the results of a three-horse photo finish, but it was well worth the wait after she was declared the winner of the Listed Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes at Goodwood Racecourse on Saturday, 3 May.

The victory in the eight furlong turf contest was the first for the four-year-old Nyquist filly since winning the Roar Stakes at Gulfstream Park 12 months ago. This was just the third start during that time for Crimson Advocate, who entered today’s race off a runner-up finish – beaten just a nose – in the Listed Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes at Kempton Park in late March.

Crimson Advocate broke a bit awkwardly and had to be steadied at the start by jockey Rob Havlin, who then settled his charge at the rear of the nine-horse field. Sirona led through most of the early stages of the race, as Crimson Advocate continued to track from last.

With just over two furlongs to run Crimson Advocate was swung to the outside, where she began a sustained rally down the center of the course. She continued to run on well inside the final furlong, hitting the wire together with Betty Clover and Bright Thunder. At the wire it was Crimson Advocate by a nose over Betty Clover, with Bright Thunder just a neck back in third.

Crimson Advocate was bred in Kentucky by Whitehall Lane Farm. She is out of the multiple Stakes winner and G3-placed mare Citizen Advocate. She, in turn, is a half to Come a Callin, dam of G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Caledonia Road, G3 winner Officiating, Stakes winner One of a Kind, and the granddam of 2023 G2 Wood Memorial winner Lord Miles.

Nyquist has sired 30 Stakes winners thus far, including recent winners Gosger, winner of the G3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes; Verity, winner of the G2 Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland and Tenma, winner of the G2 Santa Anita Oaks. Nyquist is also the sire of Cavalieri, a two-time Graded Stakes winner so far this year (G1 Beholder Mile and G3 La Canada).

Nyquist is standing the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $175,000, stands and nurses.
