Clear Water surges to victory in Germany

Daughter of Hard Spun pulls away late to take Listed Grosser Preis von Engel & Volkers Dusseldorf-Fliegerpreis

Clear Water took command with a furlong to run and pulled away to win the Listed Grosser Preis von Engel & Volkers Dusseldorf-Fliegerpreis by two-and-a-quarter lengths at Dusseldorf Sept. 9.

Despite racing a bit keenly in the early stages of the seven-furlong contest, the daughter of Hard Spun sat just behind the leader in second. Clear Water moved up to challenge the leader with a furlong to run, then quickly took command and pulled away for the easy victory.

Bred in Ireland by Darley, Clear Water is out of the Storm Cat mare, Storm Lily, who is also the dam of Gold City (second in the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge-R2). Clear Water’s second dam is the incomparable Crimplene, champion in Germany, England and Ireland, and winner of several Classics including the G1 Irish One Thousand Guineas.

Hard Spun has over 60 career Stakes winners including 31 which have won in Group company, nine of those G1 winners. In fact, no stallion standing for less than $60,000 can match his seven G1 winners since 2012.
