Charming Indy romps in career debut

Colt becomes Girolamo’s thirteenth first-crop winner at Belmont

Charming Indy made his career debut a winning one when he rolled to an impressive three-length victory in a seven-furlong Maiden Special Weight at Belmont Park.

The son of Girolamo broke alertly and was soon up racing up on the pace with the early leaders. Charming Indy then began to assert control entering far turn, edging to a slight lead before taking command at the top of the stretch. The chestnut colt continued to power through the stretch, eventually winning by three lengths.

Charming Indy is out of Shady Spot, a winning daughter of Honor Glide. Shady Spot is a half-sister to Stakes winner Robin De Nest, and hails from the female family of G1 winner Hollywood Story.

Only one other freshman sire this year has more winners than Girolamo. His other runners include Stakes winner and TDN Rising Star, She’s All Ready, who recently was third in the G1 Frizette, Belmont Stakes-placed winner Lucky Lurie, and six and one-half length Saratoga maiden winner Libreta.
