Camila Princess determined winner of Martha Washington Stakes

Daughter of Animal Kingdom gets some help from the stewards to notch her second Stakes victory

In a protracted battle with rival Midnight Soiree that lasted the length of the stretch (and involved bumping and interference from both runners), Animal Kingdom’s three-year-old daughter Camila Princess earned her second Stakes victory in the Martha Washington at Gulfstream Park. In May, the chestnut filly charged to a two-and-three-quarter length victory in the Honey Ryder Stakes over the same turf course.

Crossing the wire just a neck short of Midnight Soiree in second, Camila Princess had to wait out a stewards’ inquiry involving the stretch drive. After lengthy deliberation by the stewards, Camila Princess was placed first, with Midnight Soiree demoted to second.

Bred in Kentucky by Hunter Valley Farm, Golden Acorn, Adrian Regan & Keith Lazarz, Camila Princess is out of Putyourdreamsaway (by Put It Back), winner of the Listed Florida Stallion Susan’s Girl Stakes at age two. Out of the Stakes-placed mare Beauty For Ashes, Putyourdreamsaway is a half-sister to Stakes winner and Graded Stakes-placed Beautiful Shot.

Winner of the G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Dubai World Cup during his racing career, Animal Kingdom is the sire of such standouts as Untamed Domain - winner of the G2 Summer Stakes and second in both the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and G2 American Turf, and Peaceful State, winner of the Listed Adelaide Guineas in Australia.
