Blues Street notches his second straight Graded Stakes win

Son of Street Cry takes the G2 Mervyn Muniz; Offlee Wild’s Heavenville lands the Crescent City Derby.

Blues Street (Street Cry) extended his winning streak to four and provided trainer Todd Pletcher with a Graded Stakes treble when flashing home to win the G2 Mervyn Muniz Jr Handicap at Fair Grounds on Saturday.

Settled well off the pace under Javier Castellano, the six-year-old was still some four lengths adrift entering the stretch but once asked to quicken, easily reeled in long-time leader Jet Propulsion and crossed the wire almost two lengths in front.

This was the third Black type win and eighth career victory for Blues Street, who landed the G3 Fair Grounds Handicap last month. Bred by Harriet Finkelstein, he is out of Capote Blues, herself a daughter of G1 winner Stormy Blues.

Also at Fair Grounds, Heiligbrodt Racing Stable’s three-year-old son of Offlee Wild, Heavenville, opened his 2010 Stakes account with a six-and-a-quarter length victory in the Crescent City Derby.

Heavenville has now notched three wins and a further six placings, including a previous Stakes victory at two.

At Oaklawn Park, Double Espresso (Medaglia d’Oro) took third in the Carousel Stakes.
