Biggin Mike runs big at Turfway Park

Henny Hughes has now sired 17 winners in his first crop

It didn’t take Biggin Mike long to take control of the six-furlong maiden event at Turfway Park on December 2 as the two-year-old son of Henny Hughes led gate-to-wire for his first career win in his second start. His margin of victory was two and one-half lengths.

Bred by William Helmbrecht in Kentucky, Biggin Mike is out the Formal Gold mare Be Happy My Love, she a half-sister to Elusive Quality's champion son and Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones.

Henny Hughes is represented by 16 other winners from his first crop, including the TDN Rising Star Fort Hughes, and Stakes-placed Wealthy Aviator. His $700,000 Fasig-Tipton Calder sale topper was the highest priced of any two-year-old sold in 2010 at public auction.
