Bernardini makes it five

Stay Thirsty romps to a five-and-a-half-length victory at Saratoga; Quiet American's Star Guitar notches his 13th Stakes win

Freshman sire Bernardini recorded his second winner in as many days on August 14, when his son Stay Thirsty broke his maiden in scintillating style, winning by five and a half lengths at Saratoga.

Sent off the odds-on favourite following a second place at Belmont on his debut, the Todd Pletcher-trained colt broke well and travelling well throughout, was clear of his rivals once past the turn and soon opened up an unassailable lead, cruising to a wide-margin win.

Bred by John D. Gunther & John Darren Gunther, Stay Thirsty is out of the winning Storm Bird mare Marozia, making him a half-brother to six winners including Stakes winners and G1 performers Andromeda’s Hero and Superfly.

Bernardini is now sire of five individual winners, including G3 performer A Z Warrior.

Also on Saturday, Quiet American's five-year-old son Star Guitar notched his 13th victory at Stakes level, winning his second consecutive Evangeline Mile Handicap at Evangeline Downs.

A wonderfully consistent performer, Star Guitar has won 14 times from 19 starts and has now amassed almost a million dollars in prize money for his owner breeders Brittlyn Stable Inc.
