Bernardini half-sister to Zenyatta born

Winter Quarter Farm celebrates new arrival for the dam of Eclipse Award winner

Street Cry's daughter Zenyatta was the hottest filly in the whole of America last season, her unbeaten record culminating in Breeders’ Cup glory at Santa Anita, so it’s little wonder that Don Robinson at Winter Quarter Farm in Kentucky was delighted with the arrival of her half-sister by Bernardini on 27 January.

The filly, bred by Eric Kronfeld’s Maverick Productions from the multiple Stakes-producing Kris S mare Vertigineux, has been described by Robinson as an ‘absolutely gorgeous dark bay’. He added that the youngster was ‘big and strong and will not be going to any sale!’

Zenyatta’s amazing winning streak saw her stroll to victory in a total of four Grade One events in 2008 (the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic, Lady’s Secret Stakes, Vanity Invitational Handicap and Apple Blossom Handicap) and three Grade Two races for owners Jerry and Ann Moss. Her achievements saw her honoured with the Eclipse Award for best older female just last week.

As well as producing Zenyatta, Vertigineux is also the dam of three-time G1 winner Balance and Listed winner Where’s Bailey.
