Bernardini colt much the best in Highland Ice

Balandeen gets second career Stakes victory

Bernardini’s four-year-old son Balandeen captured the Highland Ice Stakes at Will Rogers Downs on April 3rd to register his second career Black Type win.

Balandeen broke well in the six-furlong event but ended up settling at the rear of the five-horse field.  He came three wide around the turn and got past pacesetter Topofthemountain in deep stretch to win convincingly by a little over a length.

Bred in Kentucky by Aaron and Marie Jones, Balandeen is the first foal out of Mamma Kimbo (Discreet Cat), winner of the G2 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

Bernardini sired six Graded Stakes winners in 2017 including G1 Vosburgh winner Takaful, G2 Charles Town Classic hero Imperative, G2 Al Maktoum Challenge-Round 1 victor Le Bernardin, and Watershed, winner of the G3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland.

Bernardini is standing the 2018 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $85,000, stands and nurses.
