Bernardini colt impressive in Tom Ridge

Balandeen becomes his sire’s newest Stakes winner

Bernardini’s three-year-old son Balandeen captured the $100,000 Tom Ridge Stakes at Presque Isle Downs on May 22nd to register his first Black Type win.

Balandeen broke well in the six-furlong Listed race and sat just off the pace set by En Hanse.  He took over the lead in mid-stretch and pulled away to win convincingly by almost two lengths.

Bred in Kentucky by Aaron and Marie Jones, Balandeen is the first foal out of Mamma Kimbo (Discreet Cat), winner of the G2 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

Balandeen is Bernardini’s fifth Black Type winner in 2017.  His other top performers this year include G2 Charles Town Classic hero Imperative, G2 Al Maktoum Challenge-Round 1 victor Le Bernardin, and Watershed, winner of the G3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland.

Bernardini is standing the 2017 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $100,000, stands and nurses.
