Beau de Beaupre wins the Damon Runyon in a page-turner

Son of Holy Bull becomes his sire’s 42nd stakes winner

Two-year-old colt Beau de Beaupre went straight from a maiden win into the one mile and 70 yard Damon Runyon Stakes at Aqueduct on Sunday and scored an impressive victory. He stayed close behind the leader, who faded to last from the pressure, gained the lead on the turn, and withstood another assault by a rival to show real heart in winning by a half-length.

Beau de Beaupre became the 42ns Stakes winner for his sire, Holy Bull. In six starts, he has only been off the board once. Trained by Jimmy Jerkens and ridden by Alan Garcia, the dark bay colt was bred in New York by his owners, Nassau CC Stables. He is the first foal produced by Cassette Case, by Mighty Magee to race.

Among the 42 stakes winners Kentucky Derby winner Holy Bull has sired are champion and sire Macho Uno, Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo, and a dozen other Graded Stakes winners, including Grade 1 winners Confessional, Pohave, Bishop Court Hill, and Flashy Bull
