“Arthur” crowned king in Aqueduct maiden win

Two-year-old colt becomes Bernardini’s 12th winner

Arthur’s Tale, by Bernardini, seemed to relish the mile distance over Aqueduct's inner dirt track on December 2nd, pressing the pace all the way into the stretch before drawing away down the lane to win by a widening two lengths. The Darley-owned colt was a $750,000 purchase at Fasig-Tipton’s Saratoga sale in 2009.

Arthur’s Tale is the third foal out of the Harlan mare Owsley and was bred by Arthur Hancock’s Stone Farm in Kentucky. A multiple G2 Stakes winner, Owsley’s first two foals, War Hoot and Senada, are both stakes horses. Her fourth foal is a yearling colt, also by Bernardini.

Arthur's Tale is one of a total of 12 winners - four Group or Graded - from Bernardini’s first crop, which also includes G1 winners A Z Warrior and Biondetti, G2 winner To Honor and Serve, and G3 winner/G1-placed Theyskens’ Theory. Bernardini is the only first-year sire ever represented by both a G1 winner on dirt and turf.
