Animal Kingdom's Motatan breaks maiden at Gulfstream

Two-year-old colt is the eighth winner for his freshman sire

Animal Kingdom’s two-year-old son Motatan broke his maiden at Gulfstream Park West on November 14th to become the eighth winner for his freshman sire.

Motatan broke sharply and went straight to the lead in the seven-and-one-half furlong turf maiden.  He gamely held off a challenge at the top of the stretch and pulled away to win by one-and-one-quarter lengths.

Bred in Kentucky by Godolphin, Motatan is out of the stakes-placed Storm Cat mare Late Romance, a daughter of G3 winner and G1-placed Illustrious Miss and a half-sister to G2 winner Gamilati (Bernardini).

Animal Kingdom is the sire of seven other winners from his first northern hemisphere crop.  They include G2 winner and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up Untamed Domain, G2-placed Sunny Skies, Del Mar Graduation Stakes winner Continental Divide, and undefeated TDN Rising Star Grace and Dignity.

Animal Kingdom will stand at Jonabell Farm in 2018 for a fee of $30,000, stands and nurses.
