Al Khali throws a strike in G2 Bowling Green Handicap

Son of Medaglia d’Oro surges in stretch for second career Graded win

Lacking running room midway down the lane, jockey Alan Garcia was finally able to guide Al Khali out of traffic into a clear path giving the son of Medaglia d'Oro his second career Graded win in the G2 Bowling Green Handicap at Belmont Park and potentially stamping his ticket to the Breeders’ Cup in November.

Bred by Emory A. Hamilton in Kentucky, Al Khali has proven to be a bargain sales purchase having brought just $15,000 at Keeneland’s 2007 September Yearling sale.

He is out of the winning Capote mare Maya, she a full sister to G2 winners Waldoboro and Tara Roma. All three are out of the outstanding producer and race mare Chic Shirine.

No other stallion has sired more Graded winners from their 2006 and 2007 crops than Medaglia d’Oro.
