Adelong makes Stakes breakthrough at Randwick

Talented filly joins Medaglia d’Oro’s prolific list of Stakes winners

Adelong made the most of the suitable conditions at Randwick to assert herself in Saturday’s Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes and join the long list of graded winners produced by her sire Medaglia d’Oro.

A filly who has shown a preference for softer tracks, Adelong powered through the soft going to score by a half-length from Wandabaa with Viridine in third place.

After travelling comfortably behind the leader from the gates, Adelong was poised to make her move at the 250m and quickly put the result beyond doubt, sprinting clear and then comfortably holding off the runner-up.

The win was the filly’s eighth, her first at Stakes level and made her Medaglia d’Oro’s 152nd Stakes winner.

Adelong is the second named foal, and one of two winners, from her dam Snowgums herself a daughter of Snowdrift whose 10 winners include the G1 winner Snowland, the Listed winner Snippetson, and the G2 winner Portillo.

Medaglia d’Oro stood the most recent northern hemisphere season at Jonabell Farm, Kentucky at a fee of $150,000, stands and nurses.
