Meringue rises to the top in the $1 million KY Downs Juvenile Fillies Stakes

Two-year-old Frosted filly now boasts a Stakes win and Graded Stakes-placing in just three starts

Meringue came with a furious rally in the final furlong to get up at the wire to win the $1 million Listed KY Downs Juvenile Fillies Stakes by a head at Kentucky Downs on Sunday, Aug. 31.

The victory was the first Stakes win for the juvenile daughter of Frosted, who entered the race off a runner-up finish in the G3 Adirondack Stakes over the main track at Saratoga. Meringue, who broke her maiden in her debut on the turf at Churchill Downs in June, improved her record to 2-1-0 in three starts.

Quickly settled into stride after the start, Meringue rated behind runners near the rear of the field early, while racing well off the fence in the four-path. With rivals bunched to the inside of her, Meringue switched out even wider in the home straight, putting in a furious rally in the final yards to just get up to win by a head over Red Beretta. To a Flame was just a nose back in third.

Meringue was bred in Kentucky by Mesingw Farm and is out of Catbrier (by Street Sense). Catbrier’s dam is the multiple Graded Stakes-placed Kiawah Cat (Lemon Drop Kid) and hails from the immediate family of G2 Ribblesdale Stakes winner, Michita (Dynaformer), and G1 Dubai World Cup third-place finisher, Cat O’Mountain (Street Cry).

Sire of 36 Stakes winners, Frosted is represented by additional 2025 Stakes winners Flood Zone (G3 Gotham Stakes); Post Time (Deputed Testimony Stakes); Winterberry (Bison City Stakes); White Rocks (Cincinnati Trophy) and Frost At Dawn (Listed Cecil Frail Stakes in England).
