Songbird soars to victory in G2 Las Virgenes

Champion daughter of Medaglia d’Oro remains perfect in five career starts

Songbird made a superb sophomore debut on Feb. 6 as she cruised to an impressive six-and-a-half-length victory in the G2 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who earned the Eclipse Award for Champion two-year-old filly in 2015, improved her record to five wins from five career starts.

Bred in Kentucky by John Antonelli, Songbird was purchased for $400,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale by Fox Hill Farm. Songbird is out of Ivanavinalot, who captured the G2 Bonnie Miss and was second in the G2 Davona Dale as a three-year-old.

Medaglia d'Oro was the sire of 29 Stakes winners in 2015 including G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver and Mshawish, winner of the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap. He will stand the 2016 breeding season at a fee of $150,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
