Songbird sings winning tune in G3 Santa Ysabel

Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro cruises to easy victory

Songbird improved her record to a perfect six-for-six with a dominating performance in the G3 Santa Ysabel Stakes March 5.

The three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who earned an Eclipse Award as Champion juvenile filly in 2015, has yet to be tested in her career. Breaking alertly under regular rider Mike Smith, Songbird went to the front at the start and was never challenged, eventually crossing the finish line three-and-three-quarter-lengths in front while under a hand ride.

Bred in Kentucky by John Antonelli, Songbird was purchased for $400,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale by Fox Hill Farm. Songbird is out of Ivanavinalot, who captured the G2 Bonnie Miss and was second in the G2 Davona Dale as a three-year-old.

Medaglia d’Oro was the sire of 29 Stakes winners in 2015 including G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, Mshawish, winner of the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap, and Gold Medal Dancer, winner of the G2 Azeri. In addition to Songbird, Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of 2016 Graded Stakes winners Mshawish, winner of the G1 Donn Handicap, and Astern, winner of the G2 Silver Slipper in Australia.

Medaglia d’Oro is standing the 2016 breeding season at a fee of $150,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
