Atreides all class in Aventura Handicap

Medaglia d'Oro colt now 4-for-5 lifetime

Three-year-old Medaglia d'Oro colt Atreides continued his perfect record at Gulfstream Park December 7 with a dominant win in the Aventura Handicap.

In the one-mile race Atreides overcame a slow start and quickly put himself into contention on the far outside. Traveling around the turn three-wide, the colt was asked at the top of the stretch, where he pulled away a clear winner to capture the race by more than five-lengths.

Breaking his maiden over the same course in July under a hand ride, the colt returned in August with an equally easy score in an Allowance at Gulfstream. Atreides then set his sights on the Monarchos Stakes later than month, which proved just as successful for the colt, romping by more than 17 lengths. With the Aventura win, Atreides improves his record to a strong four-for-five lifetime.

A homebred for Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC, the well-bred colt is out of multiple G1-winning mare Dream Rush. He is a half-brother to G1 Frizette Stakes winner Dreaming Of Julia.

2014 G1 winners for Medaglia d'Oro include 2014 G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Lochte and G1 Just A Game winner Coffee Clique. He is best known for his multiple G1 winner and Horse Of The Year daughter Rachel Alexandra, and other top runners for the sire include G1-winning turf mare Marketing Mix and G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty.

Medaglia d'Oro will stand the 2015 breeding season for $125,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
