Athena proves best in Thirty Eight Go Go

Street Sense filly gets first Stakes win

Three-year-old Street Sense filly Athena took the one-mile Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes at Laurel Park on December 26th to become the newest stakes winner for her sire.

In her stakes debut, Athena broke well, sat in mid-pack around the turn, and closed along the rail through the stretch to prevail by a length.  The victory was her third in a row and improved her record to four wins in ten career starts.

Bred in Kentucky by Gary Chervenell, Athena is out of the unraced Rock of Gibraltar mare Race Rocks.

Athena is the 14th northern hemisphere black-type winner for Street Sense in 2015.  His top runners this year include G1 Las Virgenes winner Callback, G1 Ogden Phipps and G1 Beldame winner Wedding Toast, and recent G1 Starlet Stakes heroine Street Fancy.

Street Sense will stand for a fee of $45,000 (stands and nurses) in 2016.
