Medaglia d'Oro consistently at the top of the charts!

"Like old wine" which gets better with age, Medaglia d'Oro at age 22, simply keeps on achieving success after success. A great example of this can be found in the November MarketWatch issue from BloodHorse Publications which provides an overview of North American sires that covered mares in 2020. And once again, Medaglia d'Oro tops the list by quality of mares bred with a 7.73 Comparable Index (CI) (click here for more on CI).

1. Medaglia d'Oro - 7.73
2. Quality Road - 5.67
3. Curlin - 5.12
4. Tapit - 4.25
5. Into Mischief - 3.88

So when the foal from the mare you breed to Medaglia d'Oro in 2021 is a yearling, his best-bred crop mentioned above will be two-year-olds on the track. Given the quality of mares from this book, it's seems very possible that you'll have a tremendous amount of support from these runners on the track in 2023. Mares bred in his stellar 2020 book include the dams of G1 Kentucky Derby winner and Eclipse Champion California Chrome, World Champion Sprinter Harry Angel, Champion Older Female Midnight Bisou, G1 Pegasus World Cup winner Mucho Gusto, G1 Preakness Stakes winner Exaggerator, G1 Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another, and G1 Whitney Stakes winner Honor Code to name a few. He was bred to a total of 61 Graded winners or the dams of Graded winners, including 26 at the highest level.

$1.6 million-dollar yearling at Keeneland September

Also this past year, Medaglia d'Oro added four more million-dollar yearlings to his growing list of high-priced sales horses. And he was the nation's leading yearling sire by sales average:

1. Medaglia d'Oro - $483,884
2. Into Mischief  - $420,162
3. Tapit  - $407,115
4. Quality Road  - $342,780
5. War Front - $337,034

Medaglia d'Oro has now sired 20 million-dollar yearlings since 2016. That's more than any other stallion during that time; more than Tapit, War Front, Curlin, American Pharoah, Into Mischief, etc.

Multiple Champion Songbird

Medaglia d'Oro's 2019 crop of foals was his best-bred yet. Included in this group were foals out of such G1 winners as Eclipse Champion Forever Unbridled, Eclipse Champion My Miss Aurelia, Unbridled Forever, Dreaming of Julia, as well as half-siblings to G1 winners like multiple Eclipse Champion Songbird (by Medaglia d'Oro), Cartier Champion Lady Aurelia, and Florida Derby winner and leading sire Constitution.

2018 was another great sales year for Medaglia d'Oro as he saw eight more seven-figure yearlings pass through the ring. He was poised for a big sales year as he had an amazing year on the track in 2017. He was the nation's top sire by number of G1 winners with seven, a feat only the great Mr. Prospector could match:

Medaglia d'Oro - 7
Scat Daddy - 6
War Front - 5
Malibu Moon - 4
Tapit - 4

In 2017, his G1 winners included Breeders' Cup winners Talismanic and Bar of Gold, along with Songbird, Bolt d'Oro, Elate, Dickinson and New Money Honey.

While it's difficult to maintain sire excellence year after year, Medaglia d'Oro continues to garner tremendous support from the nation's leading breeders. If you would like any additional information on Medaglia d'Oro, please call us at (859) 255-8537.
