Hard Spun set for a strong comeback in America

First post-Japan crop to race in 2018

Hard Spun proved it on the track as a G1 winner capable of running short and long. He's proven at stud with a total of nine G1 winners to date. And with his first crop of 118 two-years-olds since returning from Japan hitting the sales and racetrack in 2018, the stage is set for more success from one of the last sires to carry on the great Danzig line.

We caught a glimpse of good things to come at the Kentucky and New York yearling sales last year when Hard Spun's yearlings averaged $124,000 with prices up to $900,000. And the list of prominent buyers at the sales further illustrate this demand; a group that included:

Bradley Thoroughbreds
Calumet Farm

Crupi's New Castle
Donegal Racing
Ben Glass
Mayberry
John C. Oxley
Mike Ryan
Spendthrift Farm
Three Chimneys
West Point Thoroughbreds

Major two-year-old consignor Niall Brennan has a few Hard Spuns for the two-year-old sales coming up and recently had this to say, "I have several nice Hard Spuns this year, and I particularly like my colt in the OBS March sale. His stock are durable and honest – he WILL get you a runner!"

Prominent agent/breeder David Ingordo, who purchased G3 winner Timeline for $500,000 in 2015 and his full brother for $900,000 last year, recently made these comments, "His deck is stacked for a big comeback. We are looking forward to a strong campaign with Timeline – he’s back with Chad [Brown] and doing great – and we’re very pleased with his two-year-old brother. I’ve sent four client mares to Hard Spun this year, and one of my own."

In the three full seasons he's been back in Kentucky (2015-2017), Hard Spun has covered a total of 464 mares which provides plenty of opportunity for success in the coming years.  Top breeders that have continued to support Hard Spun during this time include:

Adena Springs
Airdrie Stud Inc

Fred W. Hertrich III
