Lady Valor determined winner of maiden special weight contest at Keeneland

Filly becomes 14th winner for freshman sire Maxfield

Lady Valor was seen placing second in her most recent start on the turf at Colonial Downs last month. The move back to the dirt at Keeneland on October 8 proved to be a winning recipe as she split rivals in deep stretch to get up for the victory in a six-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight contest. The youngster became the 14th individual winner for her freshman sire, Maxfield, who currently is the second-leading freshman sire of 2025 by earnings.

A field of 10 two-year-olds entered the starting gate for the main track contest with Lady Valor racing in mid-pack through the early stages. Lady Valor, racing off the rail throughout much of the race, began weaving her way through traffic on the far turn and into the stretch finally getting to the front at the sixteenth pole. She battled gamely down the lane, finally getting the better of her rivals nearing the wire for the victory.

Lady Valor was bred in Kentucky by Candy Meadows LLC, and is out of the Honor Code mare, Breathless, a half-sister to multiple Stakes winners Blue Heart and Financial Recovery (Street Cry).

In addition to Lady Valor, Maxfield's other first-crop winners include his most recent TDN Rising Star, Englishman, who scored impressively on debut at Churchill, breaking his maiden by seven and one-quarter lengths while registering a 97 Beyer Speed Rating. He's also the sire of Max Ciao, winner of the I’m Smokin Stakes at Del Mar; Saratoga debut winner and TDN Rising Star Five Bars, who finished third in her most recent start, the G1 Frizette; Saratoga debut MSW winners Boomington and Rock It Rob; other TDN Rising Star Magna Victor; Lilies N Paradise, debut winner at Churchill Downs (and now Stakes-placed at Delaware Park); Just Asap, a seven-length debut winner at Ellis Park (and now Stakes-placed at Monmouth Park), and Tingus Pingus, a wire-to-wire winner at Keeneland.
