Royal Testament sails to victory in the Rosie’s Stakes at Colonial Downs

Two-year-old daughter of Midshipman beats the boys and gets her first Stakes win

Royal Testament, one of just two fillies in the field of nine juveniles, hit another gear in the final furlong and cruised to an easy victory in the $125,000 Exacta Systems Rosie’s Stakes at Colonial Downs on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The victory was the second straight win for the daughter of Midshipman, who entered the race off a three-and-three-quarter length victory going five furlongs on the turf at Monmouth Park July 27. Royal Testament improved to 2-1-0 in three starts.

Off alertly under jockey Eric Cancel, Royal Testament took the lead shortly after the start. She raced under pressure from the inside through an opening quarter in :22.05, began to shake clear at the top of the stretch and kept on cruising through the lane to win by three-and-three-quarter lengths. First-time starter Gypsy Art (and the other filly in the field) was second. Favored Rogue Legend was third.

Royal Testament was bred in Kentucky by Killora Stud LLC and is out of True Testament, a winning daughter of Hansen. She hails from the immediate female family of eight-time Canadian Champion and Canadian Horse of the Year, Pink Lloyd.

In addition to Royal Testament, Midshipman is also the sire of Snow Face Princess, recent winner of the Bolton Landing Stakes at Monmouth Park; Colleen Stakes winner Gerrards Cross; Nodouble Breeders’ Stakes winner, Navy Seal and three-time Stakes winner One Last Chance. Midshipman is also the sire of three 2025 Chilean G1 winners: Lucky Red (G1 El Derby), The Goat (G1 Dos Mil Guineas, G1 St. Leger), and Cassis Violeta (G1 Las Oaks).
