Proctor Street rallies to get the victory in the Cardinal Stakes at Churchill Downs

Street Sense filly impressive when notching her first Stakes win

Proctor Street slipped through an opening with less than a furlong to run and finished with authority to defeat Awesome Czech by three-quarters of a length in the $300,000 Listed Cardinal Stakes at Churchill Downs on Thursday, Nov. 27.

Proctor Street, a 4-year-old filly by Street Sense, ran the nine furlongs over the firm turf in 1:49.65 to earn the first Stakes victory of her career.

Breaking from post 9 in the field of 11 fillies and mares, Proctor Street raced in fifth down the backstretch along the inside rail as Stylish Sue led the way through fractions of :24.33 and :49.38 for the half-mile. Entering the far turn, Proctor Street was full of run, but jockey Tyler Gaffalione remained patient and kept the filly covered up while waiting for an opening to develop.

That opening finally appeared and Proctor Street shot through at the eighth pole, charging past the rail-skimming Awesome Czech for the impressive win.

Proctor Street was bred in Kentucky and races as a homebred for Patricia L. Moseley. She is out of the multiple Graded Stakes-winning mare, Proctor’s Ledge (Ghostzapper), winner of the G2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile, G2 Lake Placid Stakes and placed in the G1 Just a Game Stakes.

In addition to Proctor Street, Street Sense is also represented this year by La Cara, winner of both the G1 Central Bank Ashland Stakes and G1 Acorn Stakes; future Darley stallion First Mission, winner of the G2 Oaklawn Handicap; Serendipity, winner of the G3 Selene Stakes and Street Beast, winner of the Global Tote Juvenile Mile.

Street Sense will stand the 2026 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $40,000, stands and nurses.
