Midshipman’s daughter Kontiki sails to victory in Tah Dah Stakes

The two-year-old filly made the successful jump from maiden winner to Stakes winner in just third career start

One could say, "wash, rinse and repeat", for Midshipman's daughter, Kontiki, as she almost exactly duplicated her recent maiden victory (seven and one-quarter-length win) with her runaway win in the Tah Dah Stakes (seven and three-quarters of a length margin) on July 18th at Belterra Racetrack. The $170,000 Stonestreet Farm yearling purchase from Keeneland September in 2024 is now two for three in her career.

Although Kontiki broke third behind the speedy leaders, jockey Fernando De La Cruz steadily urged his mount and corralled the front-runners entering the farm turn and quickly drew off for an easy victory down the lane.

Kontiki was bred in Ohio by Smokin C and is out of Hula Skirt, a full to three SWs including G3Ws Grasshopper and Turf War. Kontiki's half sister Generous Lover is a three-time Stakes winner.

In addition to Kontiki, Midshipman is the sire of Navy Seal, winner of the Nodouble Breeders’ Stakes at Oaklawn Park, three-time Stakes winner One Last Chance, in addition to three Chilean G1 winners this year: Lucky Red (G1 El Derby), The Goat (G1 Dos Mil Guineas, G1 St. Leger), and Cassis Violeta (G1 Las Oaks).
